Chromecast support- CHECK!

New features

Ladies and Gents, boys and girl, dear users, “the wind in our sails” (yes, that’s all of you!!), our friends:

Chromecast support is finally here!

Alpha 4.3 with Chromecast support for Windows is in alpha, get it here:

We can’t tell you how happy we are today- this was a very challenging…. Challenge ;-)

We enjoyed it, but we hated keeping all of you waiting for so long- so now that it’s out, we’re PHEWWWWWW if you know what we mean!!
This is the alpha version, so handle with care and let us know what works, what doesn’t, and if you do find something that’s not working properly (hopefully not!!) let us know in our forum and be as specific as possible (also tell us which Windows version you’re running, etc.).
The beta version by the way, will be out and will update automatically in a week or so for those of you who choose to wait.
“To download the alpha or to wait for the beta?” It’s one of life’s more difficult dilemmas. We know.

**It’s not casting subtitles yet- it will take a bit longer until we start casting them, but we’re on it- no worries!

What else?

Applers (Mac’s):
In approx 2 weeks if everything goes according to plan you’ll have something new and much much better to play around with- beta 4.3 for Mac, with built in VPN (The Anonymous Apples- sounds like a name of a rock band, no?) and a whole new better infrastructure which will resolve many issues some of you were having!
Chromecast support is also in the works for Mac, but it will take a bit longer, so stay tuned for that.

Popcorn Time beta 0.2 for Android will be released this week (if everything goes according to plan) and it will have Chromecast support (yes!!!) and major bug fixes. We’re working UBER hard on making Popcorn Time work on all Android supporting devices, but there are so many out there- you can’t even believe how many, and each device has it’s own needs and requests and things it likes, and doesn’t like hehe… Kinda like women lol  (women, we love you, can’t live without you!!) ;-)
So it may be a little longer until Pochoclin manages to satisfy all their different needs, but he will.

Many more exciting things are in the works… iOS in August (you didn’t hear it from us!!!) and more…

Yes, we definitely believe this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship!!

Now go, download, and please please please- share Popcorn Time ( with your friends!! Help us spread the word- it is all we ask of you!!

Lots of Popcorn Love,

Popcorn Time Team :-)

  • Hello,

I downloaded this version, but it didn´t find my chromecast. Always when i clicked on the button the message is the same. “No cast device found.”

But when I open my google chrome, the plugin for chromecast works perfectly.

  • Are you guys planning on keeping Desktop Linux up to date with features? I haven’t heard any mention that it’s in any way a priority. I’d love to have its status at least mentioned with the other platforms’ news

    • Hey man,
Yes, we’re definitely planning to keep Linux up to date and we will start working on a new Linux version soon… We can only do a few things at a time, and we’re uber busy with maintaining the Android, PC, Mac and all the features we added… Linux is our love and most of us work on Linux, but since the demand for Linux is a bit smaller, it’s not on the same level with all those other more popular operating systems…
But it is always on our mind and we’re planning to make some time to make the Linux version kick ass soon!!!!!!! :)

      • Baller. I just love status updates, even if they are communicating that things are on the backburner, or dead. Good to hear the Linux client has a future.

      • I’m glad to hear Linux is still in the works, though even widely vague timelines such as “2 to 6 months,” “this fall,” or “before Christmas” would be preferable to that cringe-inducing word “soon.” :) (As you work on Linux, and claim it is your “love,” you can appreciate how often the word “soon” is flung from developers, and how often it means “never.” Sigh.) All I’m waiting on is the anonymization feature to be added to Linux so my wife and I can securely enjoy a movie now and then. I know its coming, but it’s nice to hear we’re in the mix. Thanks for the excellent work!

    • Hey Leandro, yes this is a known issue we’re working on fixing… A little bit more patience and we’ll get it done. Thanks and apologies for the inconvenience.

  • Notebook core i5 with 6 gb ram

The program works perfect, the video and subtitle are perfect, but the chromecast not appear to integrate with the tv, minimized the PT and the chromecast accessed with the browser chrome normally.
    What is the solution?

    • After many attempt worked magnificently though without subtitles, it is concluded that the problem is in the local network communication. Now we need to define access to subtitles to get perfect.
      Used with Win8 core i5/6gb ddr3

  • Hi, i using the software on windows, but the subtitles no works on the streaming for chromecast. In the computer the subtitles work, but in TV no.
    You can help me?
    Thanks for the amazing software!

    • Subtitles casting is something we have to develop separately and we’re still working on it… It will take a bit longer, but it will happen, don’t worry!

  • Keeps crashing on my tablet. Works fine on my phone but galaxy tablet 10.1
Running 4.2.2 keeps saying “unfortunately, popcorn time has stopped.”then goes right back to home screen

    • Hello Steve,
Popcorn Time still doesn’t work perfectly on all Android devices… There are so many out there and it’s a huge challenge to make the program compatible with all. But we’re constantly working on building, improving and making it better and better… So please a bit of patience and everything will work perfectly we assure you!! :-)

  • I downloaded the alpha version. Movies play etc. But I dont see a cast button to send to my chromecast? Im on windows vista. Is there a way to start casting ?

    • Hey Ricky, there is a bug in the alpha that not all users see the cast button. We are aware of this issue and we’re fixing this for the beta 4.3 which will be released in a few days. Stay tuned!

  • I have the chromecast button on the player, but it says no chromecast found!

I can confirm that the chromecast is working through the chrome extension

    any ideas??

Thanks for such an awesome program!

    • Hey Jay,

This is a bug with the alpha 4.3 and it’ll work better in the beta 4.3 which will be released very soon…
